How Irish take-home pay is worked out
Income tax is charged at 20% up to your standard rate band and 40% above it. Your tax credits are then taken off the tax bill — every employee gets the €2,000.00 employee (PAYE) credit on top of their personal credit.
The Universal Social Charge applies to gross pay, but nobody earning €13,000.00 or less pays it. PRSI (Class A) is 4.20% of all earnings once weekly pay is over €352.00. Pension contributions reduce income tax only.

| Single parent | €48,000.00 | €3,900.00 |
| Married / civil partners (one income) | €53,000.00 | €4,000.00 |
2026 USC rates

|---|---|
| 0.50% | €0.00 – €12,012.00 |
| 2% | €12,012.00 – €28,700.00 |

| 8% | Over €70,044.00 |
