How the conversion works

Every unit in a category is stored as a multiple of one base unit (litres, metres, square metres, kilograms or bar). Your value is converted to the base unit, then divided by each target unit's factor: result = value × from factor ÷ to factor. This gives every equivalent at once with no rounding drift between steps.

UK vs US measures

Imperial and US customary units share names but not always sizes. A UK gallon is 4.546 litres while a US gallon is 3.785 litres — about 20% smaller. The same applies to pints (568ml UK vs 473ml US). Always check which system a spec sheet, recipe or fuel figure uses.

Pressure units matter for plumbing and tyres: UK boilers usually show bar (1–1.5 bar cold fill), while tyre pressures are often given in PSI. One metre of water head is roughly 0.098 bar — useful for gravity-fed systems.
